Getting hot and sweaty for charity

The Bristol Half Marathon is an annual event which attracts over 12,000 runners from throughout England. People run for all sorts of reasons, and this year Hubbub's David Chandler decided to run for charity. The challenge for Dave was that although he was one of thousands running for a good cause, he really wanted to make a difference.

Dave chose his charity – the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, whose work benefits the nearly extinct mountain gorilla and communities surrounding them. He and the team at Hubbub developed a campaign which aimed to raise awareness with the public and the media, and which would help him to reach his target of raising over £1000 in two short weeks. The campaign included a website, two professionally produced videos to create buzz and some specialised media work.

I've run plenty of half marathons before, but decided to set myself a real challenge this time, said David. From the training I did, I knew it was going to be incredibly hard to run the race. It's very hot inside the suit, and a half marathon is challenge enough without adding a layer of plastic, synthetic hair and rubber over the top.

The Dian Fossey Fund were thrilled with the result - and the coverage. Dave was the first fully-suited gorilla to run the Bristol Half Marathon for the charity, and most importantly he exceeded his targets. Top banana.
